California Supreme Court To Hear Arguments on Prop 8
The McFreeds share the following news...
Advocate.com reports a simple discription of what is happening legally in the California Proposition 8 litigation...
The California supreme court announced Wednesday that it will review legal challenges to Proposition 8, which passed by a narrow margin on November 4, constitutionally banning same-sex marriage in the state.
But don't look for any resolution in the immediate future: The high court scheduled a hearing for March, asking litigants on both sides for more written arguments in the interim.
The National Center for Lesbian Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Lambda Legal filed a suit challenging the validity of Prop. 8 on November 5, before Equality California, the official group that worked to defeat Prop. 8, had formally conceded.
The court will be asked to answer the following questions:
"Is Proposition 8 invalid because it constitutes a revision of, rather than an amendment to, the California constitution?"
"Does Proposition 8 violate the separation of powers doctrine under the California constitution?"
"If Proposition 8 is not unconstitutional, what is its effect, if any, on the marriages of same-sex couples performed before the adoption of Proposition 8?"

WHY are people against gay marriages?? If gay people want to commit to a happy, loving, relationship, it doesn't take ONE thing away from my hetero sexual marriage.
Isn't it too bad that most people have to be *slapped in the face* with a *difference* in order for them to see both sides of controversial subjects. I.E. Nancy Reagan concerning stem cell research...do you think she would have gotten involved if Ronnie hadn't gotten Alzsheimers? Do you think that George W. Bush would have a different oppinion on cell stem research if one of his girls suddenly had a spinal injury?? Abortions....how many righteous women have stood in the mile long protest AGAINST abortions only to be sooo glad to have the right to have one later in life for what ever reason.....more than you think!
People....gays do not choose to be gay. Who in their right minds would choose to be in a minority where hate and fear is lobbed at you 24/7? How could you hate and fear say, your Uncle, Aunt, Brother, Sister, Daughter or Son because of his sexual orientation that he was BORN with??
Where is all the love, tolerance and forgiveness in people? I am a white, middle class, hetero sexual and yes, GASP, liberal woman. These titles I'll gladly wear but I hope to the good Lord above, I am never labeled....narrow minded, fearful, judgemental or righteous against others who are not exactly as I am. I wish that more people would sit down and realize...."there but for the grace of God go I".
