Would you go on vacation by yourself, and if so where would you go?

I posed this question because it was a decision I made almost 1 year ago today! The result? An incredible journey to the French Polynesian islands of Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Huahine!
Surrounded by honeymooners, I traipsed through some incredible resorts and had some great experiences! I had no commitments or worries about someone else's issues and was able to just relax and celebrate myself. I say celebrate not in a pretentious way, but in a healing way. 2006 was not a great year for me and the trip made me remember that loving and being friends with yourself is the best thing you can do to soldier through. Pretension should never be something that holds you back from being yourself. I think that is why many of us blog, to be ourselves.
I taught myself how to snorkel. Swam nude in the blue Pacific alone in daylight (yes shocking revelation but it was my time!). Kayaked. Swam with sting rays the same day The Crocodile Hunter met his fate. Swam with reef sharks twice!.
Received a few sunburns (always snorkel with a t-shirt or water proof suntan lotion!) and cuts from coral on my legs. Slept in some great bungalows. Read the gay detective novels Amuse Bouche and Death Claims (the first book in the David Brandstetter Mysteries). Hung out on the beach. Found an octopus. Had dolphins say good bye to me as I left Huahine. Met all sorts of people and ate some incredible food!
In the end the honeymooners were asking me what I did today so they could do the same. All and all one of the best decisions of my life! My Under The Tuscan Sun moment (without the lesbian Sandra Oh character along and buying a house on the island) if you know of the book and movie. I realized I was going to be OK and that I loved myself.
Isn't that what life should be about?
And did I mention that on that trip I realized that I truly missed Stefan who I had just started dating at the time?! I Called him and got together the day I got back! Stefan was planning his own trip btw, a balloon ride for this 40th.
